Bit of a change in plan
So here’s the thing myself and Ian were arriving back into Chennai(Madras) from Port Blair a bit under the influence from the night before and without a lot of sleep. We came up with the idea to ask all the Airlines whats their cheapest flight in the next two days. We were thinking that we would get a cheap flight to Delhi or Calcutta. We even had the dreams of getting up to Manali. But the main thing was that we thought we would be staying in India. Well as I am writing this I am no longer in India. We are pretty close but far enough away. So guess what were in Sri Lanka. So I know what your thinking how in hell can you go from having a trip in India to just darting off to Sri Lanka well the opportunity presented itself and we took it. I must say one of the biggest factors was that were able to get the flight to Sri Lanka and then a flight to Bangkok for the same price as what we were going to have to pay just flying to Bangkok from India.
So it means that we are going to miss a few things in India and thats India finished which I don’t think has sunk in yet. If that means I will never get good iddly again there will be war. I will have to come up with a highlights list of the India Trip but I will leave that to a drunken night. The great thing is the excitment is growing again in the travelling. The not really understanding how much things are. What way to deal with people. What are the correct protocols involved. For example we had some lunch for a very good price and everyone was using a knife and fork. My God it just takes all the fun out of eating. If you don’t belive me try making yourself a curry and rice and eat it with your hands, makes the whole experiance better. The only rule is never use your left hand for anything, the left hand is reserved for a far dirtier job.
So first impressions of Sri Lanka are really strange the place is in some ways a lot more developed than India and a lot cleaner but I am not getting the same vibe. In India there is a community feel even in the cities, you know everyone know each other but it more than likely will just take a couple of days to get used to the people. Its a lot more westernised than India and you see a lot of people in jeans and stuff like that but it has benifits we might sample the night life tonight and see if we can have a bit of craic. Oh yea and every third person is either working for the police and the army. Its a bit crazy that way I have never seen so many machine guns in my life. Coming into the city there are loads of check points where cars are searched and bunkers there with army people in them just incase there is a suprise attack. But the lads seem nice and smiley so it will probably be shanti.
Anyway off now and see what sort of mischeive I can get myself into for the night.
Talk to you soon

Hey guys,
Sorry for the lack of comments the past few weeks, just got back from Texas a few days ago… It was fantastic!! Obviously not as fun as India, but what can you do! Looks like you’re having a great time, I’m eternally jealous. Glad to see you got the beard trimmed though Joe, it was looking a bit scraggly, wasn’t half as good as Ian’s.
Anyway, the flat says hi…. Hope you haven’t run into any Tamil Tigers in Sri Lanka!!

Yea we went out one night to a place in Colombo called Clancys, I know its too cliche for Irish boys going to an Irish Bar but I wanted a pint, Had guiness and it was not good, the place I don’t think was even owed by an Irish person and it was where all the rich kids from Colombo hang out.
Kev what is the story with the lack of comments lately, How was Texas? Say hi to the flat for me, with the beard situation I know mine is looking better, multiple people that I will not disclose at this time have told me that mine is far better, It was just a bad picture.
Jonny you will be barred again if you try and plug your little baby blog, its all about size and your not even in the same league.

Alright lads, we put up a load of pictures. We bought new camera too coz the one we had, the new charger broke. Missed all the most amazing scenery in Laos. The pics aren’t in the gallery, they are in blog posts. The host we are using doesn’t handle the galleries too well.

As much as I hate to do this, censorship etc, it seems to be the flavour of the month in sri lanka so here goes, any more plugs and ye’r barred! If you want more traffic lads, just ask, we have plenty to spare!
And joe, dont give out about my pics you amish-bearded henna encrusted hobo! Listen to kevin - a very wise man! Just for that I finished off all the beer in our fridge last night, how good is that, I knew to do that even before I read your comments!
August 14th, 2007 at 12:53 pm
I will agree with Ian about sharing out our traffic to the lads as it looks like they desperatly need it.
In realtion to the picture you should excuse Ians outburst, he knows that I am so photogenic that he can’t understand when there is a bad photo of me and the henna for the record is not encrusted that fell off once I picked away the scabs.
